3D Realms Announce Retro Fantasy FPS, Graven Coming 2021

Out of the black abyss of the weekend just gone, publishers 3D Realms and 1C Entertainment bring word from the elders of their upcoming medieval game, GRAVEN, a retro-esque first-person fantasy action puzzler, earmarked for release in 2021.

Here's the reveal trailer and a 30 min gameplay preview:

Set in a dark, medieval fantasy world we are shown a large chunk of what to expect from the pre-alpha revision of the game, conjuring up monsters and puzzles for you to conquer as you navigate through this grim-looking realm. Graven looks as though it's been modelled on an extremely vintage Unreal Engine, showcasing proudly its pixellated rendering and blocky avatars, but boasts charismatic novelty in doing so...or so we can tell from the previews above.

3D Realms and 1C are quoted as describing Graven as:

"The spiritual successor to Hexen 2"

To progress through the game you will have to forgive and forget developer Slipgate Ironwork's decision to disregard waypoints, and utilise the old-fashioned techniques of navigating the realm; word of mouth. I can imagine that conversing with townsfolk and following in the direction of the tales you reap is all part of the experience, and shouldn't be too much of an inconvenience for lovers of the genre.

Be ready to have bestowed upon you more than 30 weapons to use throughout the story, on top of a few powerful modes of sorcery.

As mentioned above, Graven is earmarked for release in 2021 on Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC in a few different modes of play such as single-player, 2-player split-screen co-op, and 4-player online co-op.

Troy, out.
