WB Games Montreal To Bring Court Of Owls To Batman's Fight?

Warner bros. Games Montreal is well known for the series of Batman Arkham games in recent years and has been teasing the next release in the franchise for little over a year. Now, the studio has finally delivered a huge clue to fans about the next DC antagonist, in an ingenious way!

WB Montreal posted a tweet on Aug 17 of a short cryptic video that looks almost impossible to decipher. What's more notable about the video, and which is extremely easy to miss, is the image flash of what appears to be the Court of Owls emblem - an almost subliminal message:

The tweet also includes a link to the teaser website R3DAKT3D.com's twitter page where a second tweeted clue was posted for fans to figure out (Aug 19) which, when rearranged, shows a new emblem behind another 3 digit code. A third clue, on the website's Instagram, shows a picture of a 3D portrait with the caption "L00k cl053r. 8.22.20." in which another code can be acquired. The deciphered codes can then be inputted into the website's landing page to reveal a series of images showing what appears to be a map or night vision images of the city - check out The Arkham Channel on YouTube or the Instagram to see all teasers up to now.

We should expect one more tidbit running up to a conclusion point (possible trailer release before an announcement at DC FanDome?) - based on the code input tabs on R3DAKT3D.com. Let's hope so!

Although nothing is confirmed about how heavy a role the Court of Owls might play, I think it's safe to say that we are diving headfirst into conflict with the cloak-and-dagger organisation as the main villain in the game, which is slated for an official announcement at this weekend's DC FanDome virtual event, Aug 22.

Dig a little deeper, however, and if you're a skilled enough sleuth, you'll find fragments of code which, when lobbed through Google, returns results that include DC comics issue 359, Cassandra Cain's (Batgirl) debut into the Batman comic universe. Could Batgirl be featured in the new game? Long shot? maybe, maybe not, we'll let you decide. Speculation or not, it's a tantalising prospect!

But who or what is the Court of Owls?

The Court of Owls is a secret society commonly associated with Batman and in recent years (first mentioned in Batman #2, and first showcased in Batman #3), and depicted as one of the Caped Crusader's more influential antagonists, woven, irreversibly so, into the infrastructure of Gotham City's economy (something akin to the Illuminati). The organised crime group are known to kidnap children from circus's and transform them into their 'dirty-work' assassins, 'Talons'.

What could possibly make Gotham City even darker? - an even darker secret super-villainous organisation, that's what. Brilliant.

Without going into too much detail, a conspiracy surrounds the Court of Owls that indicates that the secret society has lurked in the background and controlled Gotham city through sinister political means for centuries. Find out more about the Court of Owls here, but for now, we will leave you with the nursery rhyme connected to the myth of the group:

"Beware the Court of Owls, that watches all the time,

Ruling Gotham from a shadowed perch, behind granite and lime.

They watch you at your hearth, they watch you in your bed.

Speak not a whispered word about them, or they'll send the Talon for your head".

Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for more teasers, cryptic codes, the DC Fandome event this weekend, and of course, the latest SkyPunk news!

Troy, out.
