Just when you think you're up to date with all the latest news in the gaming industry, with your finger on all possible pulses, something else breaches the veil and slaps you square in the face with a Bo Staff.
And let me tell you, this game looks like something else entirely!
Out of nowhere, a 13-minute gameplay trailer for the new and upcoming game Black Myth: Wu Kong developed by GameSciene was dropped into the digital ocean and shows scenes that are simply astounding;
The trailer shows gameplay in the point of view of 'monkey-king' Sun Wukong fighting through a miasma of ancient Chinese myth & folklore. The first 13 minutes, that have been so generously given to us despite being alpha footage, shows us that this game could very well compete with top titles, as far as third-person combat goes.
Now, what we do know is that the game is based on the ancient Chinese tale Journey to the West, a popular Chinese literary piece published in the 16th century that has influenced many a game in the past amongst other media such as novels and films. It appears from the opening scenes of the trailer that Black Myth follows the journey of a 'monkey-king' Sun Wukong, a Buddhist monk assisting Tang Seng to retrieve some ancient scriptures from the western regions.
The footage gives us first-hand expectancy of the combat in-game, and it's impressive - explosive movements, fluidly acrobatic dodge-skills, and seemingly unlimited amounts of strafing as the monkey king takes on gargantuan creatures of Chinese myth in what seems to be 'big-boss' format.
Aside from the absolutely stunning visuals, incredible avatar movements, and a breathtaking, ancient-Chinese mythical atmosphere, the trailer reveals something that beats at the heart of all things fantastically different and makes you wonder what the final product is going to be like if the alpha footage looks this good - hopefully, it will live up to the hype this damned trailer has created.
We'll let you make your own minds up, but for us at SkyPunk, this is a must-play already.
